How to travel safely with taxi drivers in Africa.

1. Always negotiate the fare, prior to sitting in the taxi. Write or type the fare on your phone just in case he or she tries to lie and say it was a different fare agreed. If you sit in the vehicle prior to negotiating the fare, the driver will start driving.
2. Take a photo or write down the license plate number in case you have a problem with the driver and in case you accidentally leave an object in the vehicle. If you are comfortable, ask the driver for his or her mobile number, but don’t give yours. This way if something bad happens you can have the police track him or her down.
3. GPS the destination prior to departing with the taxi driver and continue using the gps until you reach your destination.
